Security is Important, but how Important is It?

Is security important? Of course it is, but it seems like a lot of people don't really occupy themselves with it too much. I understand that of course because security can definitely be a hassle. I guess the most important thing regarding security though is that people are consequent in their actions.

So let's do a bit of self reflection on the issue:

1. When was the last time you changed your password?
2. Do you have a single password for the internet or one per site?
3. Do you share your password with someone? Colleagues, friends, your partner?
4. Is your password written down on the back of your keyboard?
5. Is your password at least 14 characters long?
6. Is your computer's lock screen option enabled?
7. Is the data on your laptop encrypted?
8. Do you have a virus scanner installed? Also on your servers?
9. How many sites store your credit card number?
10. Do you check ATMs for skimming devices? Would you know what to look for? Ever refused to use an ATM because it looked suspicious?

The point I'm trying to make here is that security is a state of mind. Everyday we expose ourselves more and more to the (digital) world. Things quickly get inter-connected. Security starts with you being careful with your digital belongings.

So be careful and stay safe people.
