Kennis Importance of internationalization

Importance of internationalization

10 years ago, internationalization was at the bottom of the todo list of most projects. Since then it has increased significantly in importance.

With more apps then ever in app stores the demand for quality translations is higher than ever. But the support for internationalization in programming languages and frameworks did not advance with that demand. More than often language files of some sort are being sent back and forth to translation agencies that have no clue about the software they are translating for.

Big sites now have dedicated crowd translation facilities. Big examples are Twitter and Facebook. The approach here is good. You get to translate where it is most suitable, the site itself. That is the key to quality translations: context.
